This thing is deeply fascinating. As you probably already know there’s a whole tradition out there of artists doing their own books. These books are true artworks in their deepest meaning: often we are talking about unique pieces or very limited-exclusive editions. The most different materials, forms and techniques get used to produce these pieces: the only basic rule is to stick to the concept of book or, in other words, the book has to be intended as a work of art in itself.
I got into it through my friend Delio Gennai who is organizing the upcoming group show “In LIBER-tà Libri d’artista Percorsi tra esperienze storiche e ricerche contemporanee” in our beloved hometown Pisa: sometimes ago he asked me to do a piece for the exhibition. I had such a good time doing this that i ended up doing three pieces. Two of them will be shown in the exhibition and the third one you can see it in those pictures. Of course artist’s books are pretty different from what i usually do, but i think it’s really “healthy” to get out of your little comfort zone every now and then.
If you’re in Pisa from 17th september till 23rd october you absolutely have to check the show, which is gonna be pretty much interesting: it’s located in four different places and it hosts the books of a lot of different artists.
